EXTRA EXTRA - Repeater moved to Wellborn

Today, Saturday 29, 2012 the W1QBI repeater was moved from Live Oak to Wellborn.  Tom Manard, Chief of the Wellborn Fire Department was extremely helpful and generous in offering us space to put the repeater and the temporary use of a tower until we put up the permanent tower. The 100 foot permanent tower was donated to the club by Chief Manard as well, so again thanks are due.

The original plan was to add three 10 foot sections to the existing 20 foot tower but after the first section was added it was decided that the tower was not stable enough to add the other two sections, so the antenna now rests at about 35 feet above the ground.  Even so, we are getting good signal reports from everyone who has talked to the new repeater.

Here's a few pictures my wife Mary and I took of the project.

Within the next 2 or 3 weeks the new tower will be erected at the same location and extra sections will be added to take it to 150 feet.

If all goes well, the October newsletter will have the pictures.
