Antennas / Re: Q&A

Using the formula for loop antennas that's a full wave loop for 160m, right?  But the typical impedance of a loop is around 100 ohms but the SWR can be affected by height and the impedance can be affected by what type of feed point you use and height also, I believe.

I'm no loop expert, but if the loop is multiple wavelengths of a frequency will that affect the impedance?  Or are there nearby metallic structures affecting the radiation?

Help me here, I'm leaving a bald spot on my head from scratching.

Aw man, I feel like a knucklehead.  I swear I heard this come out a few years ago and I read it somewhere.  Now I'm thinking it was an April Fool's joke then too.  I personally like the idea though.

Thanks for kicking mud on my excitement about CW taking over SMS.   :)

Check out this link.  It's no April fools, but nice try.  You can't read it, but you'll see the Japanese characters in Morse for the same thing in Google.  It's great.  And all my friends said CW is a dying language.

What's the frequency that you got such a low SWR on?

I'm hanging on for the answer still, but nobody's biting so I'm sticking my neck out looking for more info.

ARES / WinLink2000 Webinar
« on: April 17, 2012, 09:03:52 PM »
This is reposted from an E-mail I received from Tampa Amateur Radio Club.  I thought some of you with digital capabilities might be interested.

(Note: look closely, the time is in CDT, not EST.  I missed it the first time I read it.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All,
On Tuesday, April 24th at 8:00 PM CDT, Phil Sherrod, w4phs, aar4mx, of our Winlink development team, will present the recent changes/expansions in Winlink 2000 topology and the enhancements provided for EmComm.  This will provide detail on the "Service Code" and "radio only" options along with detail on features that now support enhanced EmComm capabilities.

Dave Scolnick, Ko4mi, will speak about his experiences regarding the value of Winlink 2000 to Maritime Hams for their safety and well-being while on the High Seas.

Please join us for these presentations.  Register using the URL: www.atldiv.org/training

The process is very easy to use.

As background, take a look at Page 40, MAY QST, at the multi-page article regarding the use of RMS Express and WINMOR. This article was written BEFORE many of the expansions to be discussed.

Even Google gmail has figured out that CW is faster than typing... too funny.

This is actually something that came out of Japan about 3 years ago called the "Clic" I believe.
